LaMama 3LaMama 5LaMama 4

My latest collaboration with Luis Lara Malvacias and Jeremy Nelson, performed 31.05.2015 in La Caldera, Barcelona, 20.05.2016 in La Mama Club in New York and 09.07.2016 in Radial System, Berlin. Luis and Jeremy make sounds using plants, and I have a solo using a light on various parts of my body to create a sound composition. This is part of a larger project to create 6 duets entitled A B C D E F which explore how the production of choreography is intertwined with process and instant performance.

My latest collaboration with choreographer Luis Lara Malvacías is a performance titled “(T).” It was premiered october 16th 2014 at Danspace Project in New York. My second incorporation of the Makey Makey in a performance was challenging (my macbook crapping out twice was not helping either) but we pulled it off with a great ensemble piece of dancers making music by touching fruit and vegetables. Read more here.

By Luis Lara Malvacías with collaborator: Jeremy Nelson

(T). is performed by: Jeremy Nelson, Mark Schmidt, Maya Orchin, Kay Ottinger, Theresa Duhon, Timothy Garlid, Priscilla Marrero, Nikima Jagudajev, and Luis Lara Malvacías.

Sound: Ivo Bol
Visuals: Luis Lara Malvacías
Lighting Design: Miranda Mikesh

(T). has received funding through a grant by the Netherland – America Foundation

Waar nog zoveel te doen is

zondag, april 14th, 2013

Om may 1st 1963, the authority of Dutch New Guinea was handed over to Indonesia (after a brief period under UN control). At the time it was very disappointing for The Netherlands, since this was the last little tail of the colonial grandeur in the east, most of which was lost after Dutch Indonesia had to be given up following the second World War. This film is a comment on how the Dutch presented themselves, as the people who would bring the Papua’s from the stone age into the 20th century (if I find the time I will add English subtitles). The film was made with Willem Peter Meeuwissen, and with the support of various museums and institutions. It is made entirely out of archive and propaganda material. It was presented for the first time october 1st 2012 at museum and residency for the former Dutch East-Indian military Bronbeek in Arnhem, where a monument for Papua’s who have fought in the small war with the Indonesians was presented. It was impressive to share it with hundreds of Dutch Veterans and Papua’s who have witnessed this fascinating history first hand.
